Natasha Carlitz

Natasha Carlitz began her dance training more than thirty years ago with Grace Butler, a former Nikolais dancer, and performed as a child and young adult with CHORD (Children's Original Repertory Dance) and SMDC (the Saturday Morning Dance Company). She has attended dance workshops in London, Amsterdam, and Maine—including three Pilobolus workshops with company founder Jonathan Wolken. Natasha has performed around the Bay Area with numerous local choreographers, including a long stint with Judith Komoroske's Creative Dance Workshop. From 1998 through 2005 she danced with and choreographed for the collective High Release Dance, producing major works for more than a dozen company performances. Her work has been seen in ODC San Francisco, DanceVisions, and sjDanceCo productions, as well as the Dancin' Downtown Festival in San Jose and the Performance Showcase and Retail Dance Festival, both in San Francisco. In 2003, Natasha received a commission for the opening of an exhibit of original art by Rebecca Fogg, and in 2005, she was named one of "ten Bay Area choreographers to watch" by sjDanceCo.

Natasha founded the Dance Ensemble in fall 2005 to bring her work to more diverse audiences. She has produced concerts of her work in 2002 (San Jose), 2005 (Palo Alto), 2006 (San Francisco), and 2009 (San Francisco). The company's 2006 concert brought the Dance Ensemble together with the California Guitar Trio, internationally acclaimed musicians.
